Hillary Vermont

Hillary Vermont was born in New York City in 1951. She had
an unusually great art education in New Milford High School in N.J.
with Bea Card Kettlewood, her mentor and inspiration. Hillary graduated
from Parsons School of Design, 1972 in NYC, with degrees in graphic
design, advertising and illustration. Hillary communicated visually
in fun colors and big bold graphics. Her heroes were Milton
Glaser and Seymour Chwast. Hillary worked as an art director in New
York City Ad Agencies and at CBS Records Advertising through the 70’s
while she put together an illustration portfolio. By 1979 Hillary
started licensing her designs to manufacturers of printable products.
Her first licensee was the Museum of Modern Art/NYC for their Christmas
card collection. Subsequent licensees were Lincoln Center for tee
shirts, mugs and towels and The Smithsonian for tees. Other product
categories her work has appeared on are children’s posters and puzzles,
beach towels, mugs, greeting cards, gift wrappings and stationery
for varied licensees. Hillary began painting in 1989 and subsequently
visited Santa Fe, NM, attending painting workshops. While camping
in Abiqui, NM (Georgia O’Keefe Country) she fell in love with the
rocks and ultimately gave up all other creative expression to create
rock art. What followed was the creation of a rock clock company called
Tic-Toc Rocks (www.tictocrocks.com)
for which Hillary gave up city life and career and moved to Santa
Fe in 1996. Now that Tic-Toc Rocks is established Hillary plans to
get back to creating in color, her first language.
